MHS Student Government Plans "Heart Week" Festivities to Support Local Nonprofit

Each February, Minnetonka High School celebrates Heart Week, a weeklong series of activities and fundraising efforts that support local nonprofit Family Friends. Family Friends provides financial assistance and encouragement to Minnetonka students and their families.

This year, MHS Student Government has planned a wide range of engaging events, including a trivia night, the Sweethearts Dance, a school spirit week and Friday Fest, all designed to build community while raising funds for this important cause.

In addition to student-focused events, there are several opportunities for the broader community to engage in the week. On Thursday, February 12, from 5 to 7 p.m., the annual benefit dinner and silent auction will take place. The evening will feature dinner catered by DiGiodio’s and Adele’s Frozen Custard and live music performed by MHS students.

All funds raised during Heart Week are donated directly to Family Friends. “Family Friends is a small but integral part of the Minnetonka Schools community, and MHS Heart Week is their largest source of funding,” said Becky Johnson, Minnetonka High School teacher and Student Government Advisor. “Last year, Heart Week funds helped 135 families by providing not only financial assistance, but also friendship, guidance and encouragement. Student Government is proud to support the work of Family Friends, serving families from MCEC through MHS.”

Student Government members oversee event coordination, gather feedback and help raise awareness about Family Friends throughout the week.

“This year, our Student Government team has done an amazing job ensuring Heart Week exceeds student expectations,” said Aadith Rebello '26, a Student Government leader. “Heart Week is such an important tradition at MHS because it brings together our entire school and the greater community while assisting families in need. My personal favorite activity is Musical Telegrams. Throughout the week, students can purchase a secret musical telegram for a friend. On Thursday, students in musical groups surprise recipients by serenading them during class. It’s an experience that teachers, students, and staff all find incredibly exciting.”

This year, MHS Student Government is aiming to surpass last year’s fundraising total of $68,000, with a goal of reaching $75,000. With strong community support, Heart Week continues to make a meaningful impact, one act of kindness at a time. Learn more and get involved by visiting the Heart Week webpage.
