Minnetonka Theatre Presents "Laughing Stock"

Minnetonka Theatre is delighted to bring Laughing Stock to the Studio Theatre at the Arts Center on 7 this February as part of its 2025–2026 season. This fast-paced, laugh-out-loud production celebrates the joy, chaos, and heart of live theatre—and the dedicated artists who make it possible.

Laughing Stock is theatrical comfort food,” said Director James Cada. “The show opens in the cold of February and closes in the hilarious warmth of August summer stock theatre. Audiences will leave the theatre laughing.”

A loving and energetic backstage farce, Laughing Stock offers an affectionate look at life behind the curtain. Set at The Playhouse, a rustic New England summer theatre, the story follows a well-meaning but overmatched company as they attempt a repertory season featuring Dracula, Hamlet, and Charley’s Aunt. From outrageous auditions and ego-filled rehearsals to opening nights that go hilariously awry, the production captures both the mayhem and magic of theatre-making—culminating in the joy of a story well told and a season fondly remembered.

Laughing Stock has earned national recognition, including a nomination for the American Theatre Critics Association Steinberg Award. It also received the New Hampshire Theatre Association’s “Best New Play” citation and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune Readers’ Choice Award for Best Play.

Directed by James Cada and Susanne Egli Cada, this production highlights Minnetonka Theatre’s commitment to high-quality, engaging performances that invite students, families and community members to connect through the arts.
